&Violin: As Resistance is the second edition of &Violin, a larger commissioning and recording project that supports the creation, recording, and distribution of new pieces for violin and other instruments.
In this second volume, I’ve commissioned Grey Grant, Alexis C. Lamb, Daijana Wallace, Jungyoon Wie, and Yanchen Ye. Each composer chose the other instrument they wanted to write for, and I asked them to write music that expressed whatever they wanted to share as they moved through our world in this time. As we recorded them, I thought the title of Alexis's piece tied them together beautifully, and with her permission I'm calling this chapter &Violin: As Resistance.
In exploring the works, you’ll learn a little more about the composers and what inspired them to write these beautiful pieces. You'll also find links to purchase the sheet music directly from them. I’d be thrilled for any of you – students, teachers, performers of any of these instruments – to support these composers by buying their music and playing it yourself. Make your own recordings, share them, and help these voices be heard as widely as they deserve.
